The office will be closed to drop-ins until further notice and we will review this again in line with government guidelines.

We have not taken this decision lightly and appreciate the impact it will have on volunteers and service users.

Should you need to speak with someone urgently during this time our email will be checked daily at 11am. Phone support can be provided in emergency circumstances. Please email if you require to speak to someone.

<![CDATA[Fundraising through Amazon]]> /node/700 /node/700#comments Did you know Amazon donates 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of eligible purchases to the charitable organisation of your choice?

We have now registered with AmazonSmile which will help us fundraise money to support our charity and all the good work we do in Greater Govan.

<![CDATA[Digital Champions]]> /node/671 /node/671#comments Govan Housing Association’s Digital Inclusion programme supports people to get online and build their digital skills by providing access to computers, WiFi and digital technology in the Digital Hub at 905 Govan Road. The main focus is helping those who have basic or no experience in using IT who as a result may be excluded from accessing lots of useful and helpful services. However the Hub is open to all.

Services being offered include: Digital Drop In service, job clubs, Basic IT classes and digital events, which in the past have included coding workshops in schools, filming and photography workshops and social media training for the third sector, as well as a Digital Lending Library and one to one support for tenants of Govan Housing Association and a Community Cinema programme.

What will you do as a Digital Champion?

 1. Engage with Govan residents and other people to increase social confidence and illustrate the benefits of basic digital skills and being online.
 2. Support people in a community setting (not in their own homes) to become more confident in basic computing skills. Digital Champions will either work with people on a one to one basis or a small group setting depending on needs at the Digital Hub.
 3. Offer informal advice on keeping safe online
 4. Provide advice and support to learners of where they can go for further help with digital learning
 5. Signpost learners to Universal Credit and other Benefit support services where appropriate.
 6. Keep an accurate record of volunteering activities and share these with Community Inclusion Team.

A Digital Champion will not be expected to…

 1. Work alone
 2. Provide in-depth technical support with computers or repairs.
 3. Provide in-depth benefits advice or make applications for benefits.

What skills do you need to be a Digital Champion?

 1. A confident ability to use computers, search the internet, create e-mail accounts, send and receive emails, use social media, online shopping and banking.
 2. Confident in using a wide range of digital technologies, e.g. PC’s, laptops, smart phones, tablets.
 3. Good listener with excellent communication skills and an ability to explain things in simple terms.
 4. Awareness of people’s interested and motivations for learning
 5. Approachable and friendly attitude.
 6. Good sense of humour and willing to have fun.

What will you get out of being a Digital Champion?

 1. Robust training including: Digital Champion and Financial Inclusion Training.
 2. Experience of working with a Community Education setting, passionately driving Digital Inclusion in Govan during an exciting time of change in the local area.
 3. Support from a dynamic Community Inclusion.
 4. Travel expenses.
 5. Support to obtain an SCQF Level 4 or above Community Achievement Award from Glasgow Kelvin College.
