The Project recognises that children learn best when their parents are actively involved in their child’s education.
Promoting parental involvement underpins everything that we do and our presence in Govan Road Campus allows the Project to facilitate a number of initiatives in order to achieve this.
Parental involvement can only be achieved by fostering positive relationships with parents, and we form relationships with families as soon as children are enrolled. Relationships develop as the child progresses through nursery and school.
We understand that some parents may themselves have had negative experiences of education. The Project aims to redress this by challenging any negative perceptions and helping parents to see the value nursery and school places on them.
Parents and carers are encouraged to get involved in their children’s education by becoming helpers within the school/nursery.
Becoming a parent helper allows the parents to show they support the nursery/school and the education their child is receiving. Being a parent helper also practically helps the school when they require additional help, for example, at special events and trips.
Parent themselves benefit because they have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence that they can transfer to further training or employment.
Most importantly parent helpers can ultimately raise pupil attainment as pupils are motivated by having their parents present and gaining a clearer understanding of how education works.
