The Govan Pantry receives funding from the National Lottery

We are thrilled to announce that we have received an award from the National Lottery Community Fund in support of the Govan Pantry!

The National Lottery Community Fund supports projects that transform communities and enrich lives, and is made possible by National Lottery players. This award, amounting £9920, will go towards the Pantry’s ongoing running costs, as well as the purchase of food and other essential items.

We launched The Govan Pantry in November 2020 as a response to the pandemic. To date, it has registered 2680 members from the local community and distributed 165 tonnes of food! That’s equivalent to 392,865 meal portions, a retail value of £589,297, and savings of 158.4 tonnes of Co2 (by diverting surplus food from landfill).

The Govan Pantry is open to anyone with a G51 postcode. Each week, our team of dedicated local volunteers donate over 50 hours of their time to support this vital community resource.

The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland Chair, Kate Still, said:

“This project, delivered by Govan Home and Education Link Project, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others. It’s all thanks to National Lottery players that we can help give charities and community groups throughout Scotland greater certainty during challenging times.”

Govan HELP Chief Officer, Viv Sawers, said:

“We are delighted to receive this award to support the continued running of The Govan Pantry — a vital part of the local community. The Pantry enables families and individuals from the local area to tackle food insecurity in a dignified way. We offer good-quality chilled, fresh and frozen produce to help families make valuable savings on the the cost of their weekly shop. Given the ongoing cost of living crisis, funding for services such as ours is so important and we are very grateful to NLCF for their continued support.”
