High School Students Choose Govan HELP for YPI Project

Govan HELP has proudly been chosen by a group of S3 pupils from Trinity High School in Renfrewshire, as the focus of their Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) project.

YPI is the biggest independent initiative being delivered in Scottish education. Each school takes charge of directing a £3000 grant to a local charity endorsed by its students. Student teams are required to research, present and compete, to make the case for their chosen charity.

Noor Amir and her team selected Govan HELP as the subject of their research and presentation for the YPI.

Quote from Noor:

“Govan HELP was the best charity we could've chosen. Winning YPI meant a lot to me personally and this was possible because of my amazing team. I am extremely grateful for everyone's efforts as you have done an outstanding job keep that up!

The confidence and push up we needed was given by mostly Viv, Stephen, and Mrs Todesco; we really appreciate it. Again thank you so much for the unforgettable experience we had because of an amazing charity. Hopefully that £3000 goes to a good cause! If I ever need any volunteering work, I will first come to Govan HELP as I know it will always be worth it no matter what. Again, thank you all for everything you could do.”

YPI is managed and principally funded by The Wood Foundation. A dedicated team works closely with all participating schools to fully realise the potential of the initiative in each unique setting.

Viv Sawers, Chief Officer of Govan HELP, said:

“We were delighted to be selected to take part in Trinity High School’s Youth Philanthropy Initiative project and even more delighted to win the £3,000 prize, which we will use towards the cost of delivering our services. The team did an amazing job of researching Govan HELP both online and through a visit to our services and were well deserving winners of the prize!

Thanks to the Wood Foundation who provide the award of funding and to Trinity High school who match this from their funds – we are very grateful for your support.”

YPI engages entire year-groups, fostering skills and self-assurance through hands-on learning. The programme raises awareness of social issues and local charities, and is a vital means of enabling grassroots, locally-driven grant allocation.
